You may enjoy this fascinating story about the “Superstar Effect.” That’s how the #1 performer in a given category gets the lion’s share of the rewards. No surprise there. But what will surprise you is how some people — in this case a high school student with average test scores and only one outside activity — manages to “hack” the Superstart Effect and get into Stanford University.
